Japanese Futon Mattress

We purchased a new futon mattress to replace our old mattress, which was purchased ten years ago along with a fantastic tatami mat bed from Tatami Room. The new mattress came quickly, and immediately reminded us why we loved the bed so much. Best sleep in some time! Terrific quality and service.

This futon mattress was to my surprise quite a bit thinner than our last one, but still very comfortable to sleep on. Customer service was spot on after some initial nudging.

I searched for a long time until I found Tatami - and was thrilled to find a homemade-to-order futon mattress. I had almost given up trying to replace my 25+ year old original mattress that was so amazing. This new one is so comfortable - I just couldn't be more pleased. Best of all was their customer service - I had had a problem with my shipment and they took care of it immediately So wonderful to work with great people and have an excellent product to top it off!.

Mattresses and sleeping mats are highly subjective so perhaps don't pay any attention to reviews, especially negative ones. My experience using this mat on Tatamiroom's platform bed with tatami mats has been the most restful and serene sleep I've ever had. I have had no problems with the density or construction of this mat. Whether you're used to sleeping on such an environment or this is your first time switching from conventional, awful, fluffy mattresses and box spring type setups, you will like this mat. It's possible for some people that you may want a bit more padding. That's perfectly normal and perfectly Japanese to have more than just a single layer for the sleeping mat. Some mats are fine standalone, some aren't, and it's really up to personal preference and not a failure or shortcoming of the mat. Putting a cover on your mattress should be a given so I don't get the complaint about not having an included cover. You need to get that yourself, obviously. The cover offered by Tatamiroom is excellent. This mat is absolutely NOT like a thick comforter. Using this mattress in combination with Tatamiroom's platform bed and tatami mats has allowed me to sleep ten hours in a row whereas I could never do more than five or six hours on my old setup for the past three years. Cannot recommend this product more highly.

I have had futons before, one I bought in Japan and slept on every night for over 20plus years. The layers of cotton were compressed as it was made so very little air and so lost almost no compression when used. It was comfy and inviting! This one is mostly air so when compressed you are left with virtually nothing to support you. It is more like a think comforter! I had to get something to put under it! Also it really must have a cover. Large amount of particle etc come from it. Compared to bed this is very disappointing!

I have over 5 of these in my house and they feel comfortable . The customer service is great and so is their delivery - timely and effecient! Highly revommended!

This is a very comfortable futon. While a bit heavy, it has helped with my back problems. I've ordered other products from this company, including this particular futon 2 other times. Thank you
